I n 1961, Mort Friedman rolled
his second perfect 300 game.
Until Oct. 29, it was his last.
That's when the 61-year-old
Friedman opened his three-game
series at Ark Sterling in Sterling
Heights with perfection.
After a 257 in his second game,
Friedman rolled 11 straight strikes
before closing with a seven, for a 297
game.
"There was nothing going through
my mind in the last game," Friedman
said. "The whole place was watch-
ing.

Will you have a great time as a JCC Maccabi Host Family?
Mort Friedman at the 1996 American
Bowling Congress Championship
Tournament.
The 854 series is one of the top 20
in any age group in the state, and the
best ever by a senior (age 55 and
older). The series occurred in Ron
Byrd's 2-1 Classic bowling league.
"No one talked to me at all during
the first and last games," he said.
"Nobody mentions a perfect game
while it's going on."
The high series record in the
Wednesday afternoon league was a
760, easily topped by Friedman's
effort.
"It was mind-boggling," he said. "I
was mobbed by people. It's some-
thing I'll never be able to do again. I
was in the zone." Cl
