It is amazing how neglected and
unsanitary the rest-room facilities are
in some restaurants.
And it is a fact that people eat more
frequently ... up to 25 percent more,
according to some surveys ... in restau-
rants where the rest rooms are clean
and sanitary ... They rarely return to a
restaurant with dirty rest rooms and
don't recommend them to friends ...
In fact, they manytimes go out of
their way to discourage friends from
trying out a restaurant where cleanli-
ness isn't up to their standards.
Many rest rooms in the metropoli-
tan Detroit area take a back seat to
none when it comes to beauty, com-
fort and convenience ... But a number
of them lack that prime ingredient ...
sanitation.
Restaurateurs having their employ-
ees tidy up the rest rooms is not
enough ... Most restaurant employees
aren't trained to clean a rest room thor-
oughly ... And they frequently resent
being asked to clean one ... As a result,
the employees often do a poor job.

Restaurant sanitation is very impor-
tant ... Serious business ... And should
not be neglected.
In Nation's Restaurant News, Los
Angeles restaurateur Earl Norsworthy,
writes, "It's your first visit to a new
restaurant. Halfway through your
meal, you excuse yourself to visit the
rest room. When you walk in, you're
greeted by an unpleasant odor and vis-
ibly dirty fixtures.
"When you return to the table, is
your appetite as hearty as it was before
the rest room visit? Are you still inter-
ested in dessert? Are you likely to
revisit the restaurant or recommend it
to friends?"
He says he uses a company that
not only cleans and sanitizes all the
drains and fixtures in his rest rooms
but also leaves behind a prominently
displayed sign informing his cus-
tomers that the rest room has been
