LONNY GOLDSMITH Staff Writer F 1991 LX 11511 or the sixth year, the social action committee at Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park will be funding care packages for Jewish soldiers overseas, this time for Chanukah. Since the program started in 1991, the committee has sent pack- ages to approximately 500 U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf, Bosnia, Japan and the Middle East. "We've received the most heart- warming letters from troops for the work we've done," said Bea Sacks, past chairperson of the committee. Temple Emanu-El is one of many groups that funds the program. "It's important to do this because many men and women are far away, without family, on the holidays," Sacks said. "It's a way to thank them for their service." In past years, the social action committee has also sent care pack- ages to Jewish troops for Passover. Since the program started, according to Sacks, several hundred people have donated. ❑
