hen Jeffrey Sachs left
Detroit in 1972, he was
a recent high school
graduate with an accep-
) tance letter to Harvard.
Now a Harvard professor of eco-
nomics with eight books and over 100
,-cholarly articles under his belt, Sachs
returns next week to his hometown to
lecture at Wayne State University's
ninth annual Professor Samuel M.
Levin Economics Award Lecture.
Named by Time magazine as "the
world's best-known economist," Sachs
serves as an economic adviser to gov-
ernments on four continents. He will
be lecturing at WSU on Thursday,
_Nov. 6, on "Global Capitalism and
the American Interest."
Robert Rossana, chair of WSU's
economics department, expects Sachs
—to address the transition of communist
