The American Jewish Committee, Detroit Chapter, and the Consulate of
Germany will host a special screening of the award-winning German film Leni.
The film, with English subtitles, is based on the true story of a small child
trapped in the course of history in 1937 Germany. Bagels and coffee will be

From Israel With Love

Temple Israel cantorial intern David Katz is origi-
nally from Phoenix, where he studied classical voice.
Now in his last year of studies at the Hebrew Union
College School of Sacred Music in New York, the
tenor is equally at home with opera, oratorio, liturgi-
cal music or Yiddish classics. Mezzo-soprano Ruti
David Katz.
Halvani has performed worldwide in opera and orato-
rio, as well as on radio and TV. As part of the
Schmier Chapel Chamber Series co-sponsored by Temple Treasures, the two per-

To Speak The Unspeakable

The Detroit Film Theatre presents Judit Elek's powerful 1996 documentary,
To Speak the Unspeakable: The Message of Elie Wiesel, which begins with the
Nobel Prize-winning author's inauguration of the Holocaust Museum, then
accompanies him as he returns to his home in the Carpathian mountains, ulti-
mately retracing his journey to Auschwitz and Buchenwald. Detroit Institute of

Art For Charity's Sake

The City of Hope's Sophie and Harry Hoffman Chapter presents an art auc-
tion to benefit cancer research at the City of Hope National Medical Center and
Beckman Research Center. A wine and cheese preview precedes the auction; bid-
ding begins at 7:30 p.m. More than 200 works will be offered, including paint-
ings, watercolors and signed graphic works. Bids are expected to range from
