Israeli Firm
Goes Public

Earn higher yields!

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Astra Technology
Investments, a Tel Aviv-based venture
'capital fund, hopes to become the first
Israeli company to sell shares on
Paris's Nouveau Marche stock
exchange, with an initial public offer-
ing scheduled for December, manag-
ing director Edouard Cukierman said.
Astra, a $7 million fund with a
portfolio of eight high-tech companies
'n the agriculture, medical, and smart-
card sectors, will go public at a corn-
pany valuation of $20 million, "a sig-
nificant discount," Cukierman said.
While Israeli companies have fared
p_mrly on London's Alternative
Investment Market which, like the
Nouveau Marche, opened last year as
an outlet for smaller companies,
ukierman said he expects his compa-
ny to perform well in Paris.
Unlike the Israeli companies that
chose to go public on the AIM
because they could not meet Nasdaq's
stiffer criteria, Cukierman said his
companies are big enough and gener-
ate enough revenue to meet Wall
Street's requirements.

Tower Predicts
Doubling Share

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Tower Records, the
California-based record company,
expects its Israeli market share to double
within the next 18 months to 25 per-
cent, Andy Lown, managing director
for Europe and the Middle East, said.
Tower is currently embarking on a
Jc-campaign to open smaller, "express"
outlets in Hamashbir department
stores.
The company also announced the
opning of Hippo, a Ramat Gan-
based store that combines Tower
Records, Bug computers, and
Steimatzky books under one roof.
