Jerusalem (JPFS) — EFW, the U.S.
subsidiary of Elbit Systems Ltd., has
been awarded an $8 million contract
by the U.S. defense giant Lockheed
Martin to develop an electronic sub-
system for the F-16 aircraft, Elbit
executives said.
The executives said Elbit will devel-
op a data entry electronics unit for the
F-16's munition system. The new sys-
tem is meant to replace older models a
now on the F-16s in the U.S. Air
Force, as well as other air forces
upgrading the plane.
Elbit executives said other contracts
for the F-16 upgrade are expected,
which will increase the Haifa-based
company's revenues by tens of mil-
lions of dollars.
In addition to the contract with
Lockheed, EFW has also received a (--
$15 million order from Rafael for the

Jerusalem (JPFS) --- Israel Minister of
Industry and Trade Natan Sharansky
is expected to arrive in Budapest,
Hungary, to sign a free trade agree-
ment with his Hungarian counterpart,
the ministry announced.
The agreement will go into effect
on Jan. 1. According to the agree-
ment, Hungary will impose the same
tax status on Israeli imports as it levies
on imports from the European Union.
The agreement eliminates what Israel
saw as increasing Hungarian discrimi-C-
nation against Israeli goods, in com-
parison to those from the EU, the
European Free Trade Association,
Central Europe and Turkey, the min-
istry said.
The agreement stipulates that
major export items will be tax exempt
from Jan. 1. This includes agricultural
equipment, irrigation systems, medicp), _,
equipment and diagnostic systems.
Taxes on the remaining industrial
exports will be reduced to 45 percent
and eliminated by Jan. 1, 2001. ❑
