Need a therapist?

Maybe a laugh

would do instead.

Meet the star

of the animated

torial shows a glimmer of hope.
The salient point is . that both Mr.
i -Netanyahu and Mr. Arafat need each
other. It is true that each has made
serious errors in judgement, but
maybe with proper nudging from the
U.S., there can and, I believe, will be
an agreement. It is not because the
ci Israelis and the Palestinians will begin
--) to like each other. Rather, it is because
political and economic reality requires
it.
As to Syria, this will take longer;
but the world is developing into geo-
economic centers and ultimately the
Arab countries will find it in their
interests to deal with Israel.

Stories Were
In Conflict

I am pleased that The Jewish News
chose to continue support of the
(-) Jewish history exhibit with the inclu-
sion of the role of Jewish gangsters. It's
important to be truthful about history.
I can live with the fact that the Purple
Gang is a part of Detroit Jewish histo-

ry.

The real shandah is the story pub-
lished this week about the chicken rit-
ual ("Fowl Play" Oct. 17).
Let me get this straight. In 1997 in
Farmington Hills, Mich., we have
people and their children twirling live
chickens three times over their heads.
The chickens become a repository of
the individual's wrongdoings, then the
Li-- ) chickens' throats are slit. The twirlers
-I do this to become "better, nicer and
kinder people." They then say a bless-
ing to show they respect life.
This is in the same issue where Ron
C)Kagan, the new zoo director, discusses
his interest in the ethical treatment of
animals. I must be hallucinating.
