I have been through labor (three

crowns put on my ailing teeth, but
these pale in comparison to what
I experienced while listening to
Yoko Ono on "Hand in Hand:
Songs of Parenthood." Would
someone please tell this woman
she can't sing.
There's a nice picture on the
cover; their arms strong and lov-
ing, parents embrace their child.
You've heard that old adage
about not judging a book by its
cover? How true — how very,
very true.
There are a couple of pretty
decent songs, like Joni Mitchell's
ubiquitous "Circle Game" and
Judy Collins' "Born to the Breed"
here. But once you've heard that
Yoko Ono number, "Wake Up,"
ce it's all over. You'll have no choice

most part, easy and predictable
(you won't find anything along
the lines of fellow Southerner
Chef Emeril Lagasse), but it's fun
reading the names of the dishes,
like Spaghetti with Swamp Sauce
and Confederate Chocolate
Shake. Along the way, "cruise
directors" Hannah and Hershel
sail the Mississippi, teaching
readers about sites in Louisiana,
Mississippi, Arkansas and
