Mine-Detection
System Sold

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Elta Electronics
Industries has sold a robotic mine
detection system to Sweden for use by
the Swedish peacekeeping forces
deployed in Bosnia, executives said.
The system, designated El/M-2190
RDMD, is regarded as one of the
most advanced mine detection units.
Company executives said the system
can detect both metallic and non-
metallic mines in a variety of difficult
terrain and environmental conditions.
Mine-clearing has been an acute
problem for both military and civil-
ians, with huge unmarked minefields
in every area of conflict, such as
Kuwait, Angola, Cambodia, Rwanda,
and Bosnia.
Elta executives said its radar has
been purchased by several overseas
customers, including Sweden and
Canda.

Funding Plan
For Air Terminal

Jerusalem (JPFS) — The Israel -
Airports Authority will issue its first
bonds next year as part of its program
for funding a new terminal at Ben-
Gurion Airport, the authority
deputy managing director for finance
Ya'acov Dayan confirmed.
The $150 million bond issue,
which will take place in eight to 10
months to help finance the $600 mil-
lion terminal, is the first in a series
aimed at raising between $350 mil-
lion and $400 million for the termi-
nal and related projects, Dayan said.
The authority is holding initial talks
with Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch,
Lehman Brothers, and Goldman
Sachs regarding the first offering. The
first stage of financing, amounting to
$100 million, would come via funds
raised by the government overseas
with U.S. government guarantees,
Dayan said. The authority expects
that money will be transferred to it by
June.
