Judge Michael Silver of West

Bloomfield received the Michigan
Aeronautics Commission (MAC)
Award of Excellence, which recognizes
organizations or individuals whose con-
tributions have led to significant
improvements to Michigan aviation.
Judge Silver has acted as a liaison
between schools, units of government,
corporations and other organizations
planning aviation and space education
projects.

Joe Kort, has accept-

ed a position on the
faculty at Wayne
State University as
adjunct professor in
the School of Social
Work. He is teach-
ing graduate courses
this fall dealing with
homosexual and bisexual issues.

Bloomfield has been elected president
of the Jewish Law Student Association
at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in
Lansing.

Men To Host
Southfield Debate

The Congregation Beth Achim Men's
Club will host a debate of the two
Southfield mayoral candidates 9:30
a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the syna-
gogue. The meeting is open to the
public.
There will be a bus tour of old
Jewish Detroit sponsored by
Congregation Beth Achim's Men's
Club, 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2. The
participants will leave from the syna-
gogue and return at 5 p.m. There is a
charge.

Fathers of children with disabilities
will have an opportunity to socialize
and discuss common concerns at a
special Dad's Night, 7-8:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the home of
Michael Morris in West Bloomfield.
The evening is sponsored by
JARC's (Jewish Association for
Residential Care) Keshet Family
Support Program. Dads who have
children of any age with special needs
of any kind are welcome.

Beth Achim
Book Series

The Congregation Beth Achim
Cultural Commission will sponsor
Book Bites, their annual book review
series.
This fall two books will be dis-
cussed. On Tuesday, Oct. 21, Rabbi
Herbert Yoskowitz will review Snow In
August by Pete Hamill. The review will
take place in the synagogue sukkah at
7:30 p.m. Dessert will be served and
there is no charge.
The second session will be Sunday,
Nov. 9, at the Jimmy Prentis Morris
Jewish Community Center. Neil
Gillman will speak at 7 p.m.
