shochet, underwent a complete trans-
S
formation in the Lithuanian army,
where he was obliged to eat nonkosher
foods in order to survive and where he -±\
was exposed to secular knowledge
hitherto unknown to him. He was
deeply devoted to the State of Israel to
his last day and put its good before his
own or his family's.
He never uttered a word of
Lithuanian, which he seemed to for-
get altogether and never told us of
life before coming to Palestine.
Needless to say, he never wanted to
=/\
return to the land of his childhood,
which became a huge graveyard.
I wonder how he would feel in
light of Jews coming at the invitation c
of the Lithuanian government, which
a mere 50 years before willingly col-
laborated in the annihilation of its
Jewish population.

Kudos to every person who participat-
ed in creating, organizing, coordinat-
ing and volunteering at the "Apples
and Honey" program at the Maple-
Drake Jewish Community Center.
It was a wonderful day of family
involvement, much fun and very edu-
cational as well. What a beautiful way
to usher in the New Year.
My grandson Jacob Allen and I
wish to thank Jewish Experiences For
Families. Your efforts were much
appreciated.
