"It's not so memorable for me
because I lost," Krickstein said. "I try
and forget it but I keep getting remind-
ed of it."
On Connors' 39th birthday, Jimmy
came back from trailing Krickstein 5-2
in the final set to win in front of a full
stadium.
"From the standpoint of dramatics it
was great," Krickstein said. "I could've
won 99 out of .100 times."
- Despite that match, Krickstein still
had a 27-10 record at the U.S. Open
during his time on the tour.
"I made the semifinals once and the
quarterfinals twice," he said. "I think I
made it to the second week seven times
altogether."
Like the Connors match, and the
two upsets in 1983, many of his match- 4
es went to a fifth and deciding set.
"One of my coaches once told someone
not to bother to come to my matches
until the third set, because that's when
it starts."
He was 28-9 in five-set matches, and
came back to win 11 of them after trail-
ing two sets to none.
- In March 1996, Krickstein unoffi-
cially hung up his racquet duet() recur-
ring leg, ankle and arm injuries and the
time on the road.
The injury bug hit Krickstein the
hardest when he was forced to default

in the third set of the semifinals of the
1995 Australian Open to eventual
champion Andre Agassi.
However, a year-and-a-half away
from the tour has Krickstein thinking

about playing again.
"I've thought about coming back,"
he said. "I feel good physically, and
could play a couple of more years if I

was in the right frame of mind.
"I'm 30 years old and it's kind of like
a midlife crisis."
lives in Palm Beach, Fla.,
with Teri, his wife of four years. He
started a business earlier this year devel-
oping salt water aquariums for business,
commercial and residential use.
Although he doesn't play tennis any-
more, Krickstein did some tennis com-
mentaries for ESPN International.
"I'm not sure if it's something I want
to pursue or not," he said. "It's kind of
weird, since I'm not used to watching
an entire match."
