The Maple-Drake Jewish
Community Center hosts the 1 1 th
annual "Apples & Honey and Lots,
Lots More," sponsored by Jewish
Experiences For Families, The
Jewish News and the JCC. This
year's free program, from 1 :30-
3:30 p.m., will include activities
for children of all ages, holiday
cooking demonstrations, a treasure
hunt and storytelling by Corinne
Stavish. At 4 p.m., songwriter-
singer Craig Taubman will enter-
tain with a family concert that
costs $5 for each JCC member
and $7 for non-members. For tick-

English Gardens hosts its fifth
annual Harvest Happening 9
until 6 p.m. at English Gardens
stores in West Bloomfield,
Eastpointe, Dearborn Heights and—/
Clinton Township. The program
features country music and a pet-
ting zoo from noon to 4 p.m.,
along with various free children's,
activities.

The Southfield Fire Dept. will
hold an open house from noon to
4 p.m. at fire headquarters,
24477 Lahser Road. The event
will feature a live demonstration
showing fire fighters and para-
medics at work. There will be face
painting, a moon walk, rides on
the fire truck and guest appear-
ances by Sparky the Fire Dog and
Smokey the Bear. The event is free,
with a $2 charge for those wish-
ing their photos taken in fire
gear. Proceeds benefit the
University of Michigan Burn

"Backyard Monsters: The World of
Insects" with a display of giant spi-
ders and other creatures. Also at
the Detroit Science Center are
IMAX films Super Speedway,
Special Effects, Destiny in Space.
The Detroit Science Center is at

for adults, $4.75 for those 3-17
and for seniors 60 and older.

At Cranbrook Institute of Science's_,
honey and apples festival, visitors
can see each stage of honey pro-
duction. Guests also may wash and
grind their own apples to make
cider. Those wishing to take cider
home should bring apples (one gro-
cery bag makes about 1 gallon)
and a clean, gallon jug. The activi-
ties are included in regular museum\
admission, which is $7 for adults
and $4 for children 3-17 and
senior citizens 60 and older.
