Jack Schiff,
`Unofficial Mayor'
Jack Schiff, 89, of Southfield, died
Sept. 21. Mr. Schiff was born in
New York City and moved to the
Detroit area with his family when
he was 3.
He graduated from
Cass Technical High
School and was a
1928 graduate of
Wayne State
University's Pharmacy
School. He opened his
first pharmacy, the
Jefferson Hall
Pharmacy, on
Jefferson near Russell,
in 1929. In 1962, Mr.
Schiff moved his pharmacy to
Lafayette Park. His interest in the
area and the people gained him the
title "unofficial mayor of Lafayette
Park."
"He had the grandfather kind of
wisdom," said David Good, owner
of Box Seat Videos, a neighbor mer-
chant.
He is survived by his wife, Rose
Schiff; son and daughter-in-law,
Richard and Diane Schiff of
Farmington Hills; daughter and
son-in-law, Cynthia
and Ralph Bovitz of
Encino, Calif.; broth-
er and sister-in-law,
Robert and Sylvia
Schiff of California;
grandchildren,
Gregory Bovitz, Cara
Bovitz, James Schiff.
Graveside services
were held at Adat
Shalom Memorial
Park Cemetery in
Livonia. Contributions may be

PAUL FRANK, 85, of Southfield,
died Sept. 16. Mr. Frank was the
owner of Frank Brothers Men's Work
Gloves and Aprons. He was a member
of B'nai B'rith lodge for many years.
He contributed to several charitable
organizations.
Mr. Frank is survived by his wife of
60 years, Shirley; daughters, Carol

Melbourne, Fla., died Sept. 20. Mr.
Golds was a technical writer for an
engineering company. He graduated
with honors from Eastern Michigan
University, was a licensed pilot and a
certified scuba diver.

ents, Dr. Jack and Barbara Golds of
