There is a tremendous amount of
game available (hunters require
provincial licenses for the late fall sea-
son) and it is not unlikely that resort
goers, campers, hikers and walkers
will see raccoons and squirrels and,
occasionally, deer and brown bear; the
latter, of course, are to be seen from a
respectful distance.
One of the best ways to see
Muskoka is to take a boat cruise that
leaves regularly from dock areas on
Lake Muskoka and some of the small-
er lakes. The cruises, which last from
one hour to five, wend their way
through connecting lakes through a
series of canal and lock systems. One
of the most fascinating cruises is on
\, the Segwun, an old steamer from the
early part of this century, now refit-
ted, which used to serve as a carrier
for the Royal Mail. Passengers on this
cruise can even visit the piston-driven
steam engine assembly on the lower
deck.
