Workshop Set

Temple Shir Shalom will host a work-
shop on Relationships 10 a.m.-noon
Sept. 21. Guest speakers will be Hazel
Karbel and Bob Handlesman.
The workshop will focus on how we
, seek unconditional love for our rela-
tionships and how those relationships
can benefit, or disadvantage us later on.

Nurses Group
Hosts Editor

The Hadassah Nurses Council will
hold an opening potluck meeting, 10
a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the

Phil Jacobs, editor of The Jewish News,
will discuss "Jewish Portrayal and
Betrayal in the Media."

Series Focus:
Self-Improvement

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will present "The
Jewish Secrets To Self Improvement."
The October edition will feature "How
To Become Well Respected," 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Maple-Drake
campus. The lecturer will be Rabbi
Shmuel Irons.
There is no charge for this program.
Refreshments will be served. Call
Mindy Soble, (248) 661-7649, to regis-
ter for the lecture. There will be a
dessert and wine reception for singles
after the lecture. There is a $5 charge
for the singles reception only, reserva-
tions are necessary.

Ecumenical
Tour Planned

The 1997 Church-Synagogue Tour,
sponsored by the Ecumenical Institute
for Jewish-Christian Studies will be
held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. This
annual program provides an opportuni-
ty to visit two different houses of wor-
ship, meet with clergy and learn more

about the religious beliefs of those who
worship there.
The tour will begin at St. Hugo of
the Hills Catholic Church in
Bloomfield Hills where Father Jim
Bilot will talk with guests. Rabbi
Dannel Schwartz will meet with partic-
ipants at Temple Shir Shalom in West
Bloomfield, the second stop on the
tour. Participants in the tour will have
an opportunity to tour each of these
houses of worship and ask questions.
An informal reception will be held at
Temple Shir Shalom at 4:15 p.m.
There will be an opportunity for fel-
lowship and refreshments (Jewish
dietary laws will be observed).
The Rev. James R Lyons, executive
director of the Ecumenical Institute,
will speak briefly about the work of the
Institute. The program is open to the
public without charge; reservations are

Hope Mission
Seeks Travelers

Jewish women who have survived
breast cancer are sought for a trip to
Poland and Israel to be called the
Mission of Hope, which will tentatively
take place in the fall of next year.
Trip participants will tour death
camps and other points of historical
interest in Poland as well as areas of
renewed Jewish life. Following the
Poland leg of the trip, the group will go
to Israel to visit sites of historical and
Jewish interest.

Study Session
On Dying

Congregation Shir Tikvah's Adult
Education Program will host a study
session on "Death and Dying," 2:30
p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. This program
will follow the meditation at 1:30 p.m.,
part of Shir Tikvah's Yom Kippur
observance.
The study session will be led by
congregant Allan Sobel, attorney. The
study session and the meditation ser-
vice will be held at the Reorganized
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints, 3830 Crooks Road (east side of
the road 1/2 mile south of Wattles),
Troy.
