Yael Waxman has joined the staff of
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit as community shlichah (Israel
emissary) and director of Federation's
Michigan/Israel Connection for a
three-year term. In her position, Mrs.
Waxman will serve as the resource for
bringing the Israel agenda before com-
munity organizations, assist with Israel
programming and act as a resource for
aliyah.
Joel D. Tauber, Jewish leader and phil-
anthropist, will be honored by
Congregation Shaarey Zedek and the
Metro Detroit Israel Bonds campaign
at a tribute dinner 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 13, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
Tauber serves on the executive
committee and board of the Jewish
Federation and is a member of the
United Israel Appeal, the Jewish
Agency, the Shalom Hartman Institute
and the Community Foundation for
Southeastern Michigan. He also is vice
president of the United Way of
Detroit and serves on its executive
committee.

Mrs. Waxman will assist with this
fall's lawyers and judges mission to
Israel, next summer's Teen Mission 2
Israel and summer singles mission,
and Michigan Miracle Mission 3 in
1999.
Writer Amos Oz will be the principal
speaker at the Israel Cancer
Association (ICA), Michigan branch
annual fund-raising dinner, 6:30 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 28, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. Oz, a professor of Hebrew
literature at Israel's Ben-Gurion
University, has had his works translat-
ed into more than 30 languages in 35
countries. He has won awards for his
work from all over the world.
At the dinner, the Michigan chap-
ter of ICA will honor Florine Mark
Ross, president and chief executive
officer of Weight Watchers Group
Inc.
