GALES, 75, of Detroit, died Sept. 15. Mr. Gales was a ply- wood importer and wholesaler of ply- wood and owner of Gales International. He was a founder and past president of the Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations, a past president of the Detroit Chapter of the American Jewish Committee, a member of the American Arbitration Association, board member of the Arab-Jewish Friends and a past presi- dent of Jewish Parents Institute. He also was a board member of Cohn- Haddow, past board member of the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism and a co-chair of the International Federation of Secular Humanistic Jews, North American Section. Mr. Gales is survived by his wife, Harriet Gales; sons and daughter-in- law, David and Melinda Gales of Nashville, Joel Gales of Washington, D.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Julie Gales and Laurence Kirchmeier of Ann Arbor; sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Edward Koblin of Huntington Woods.
