Cost Local Jobs

erusalem (JPFS) — If the Treasury
cuts the research and development
budget, ECI Telecom will consider
moving 250 manufacturing jobs
abroad, CEO David Rubner said.
"If we don't have the money to
invest in development, the only way
for us to deal with the decrease in the
budget will be to decrease the cost of
production," said Rubner.
The Treasury is expected to meet to
discuss the 1998 budget. Finance
Ministry Director-General Shmuel
Slavin previously said that all min-
istries will be affected by the budget
cut slated for next year.

--Focus Of Venture

Jerusalem (RFS) — A group of hraeli
businessmen have announced the
stablishment of a trilateral joint ven-
ure among the United States, Israel
and Jordan, said Zvi Shorer,
cofounder of the project, which will
be based in Beit She'an.
The participants hope to improve
'raeli and Jordanian business connec-
tions by identifying joint ventures in
the tourism, agriculture and industry
sectors that would best combine
Israel's knowledge, Jordan's resources
and America's financial backing.
Various European and American
companies will provide "tens of mil-
lions of dollars to finance the pro-
jects," Shorer said.
