For the second year, Aish HaTorah
will hold Rosh Hashanah services for
those who are not synagogue members
or do not feel comfortable with
Hebrew prayers.
The services will follow the tradi-
tional prayer book. Beginning with
Shacharit, the morning service, the
Torah and Haftorah will be read fol-
lowed by the shofar blowing. The
Musaf or additional service with the
second set of shofar blowing will con-
clude the service.
The focus of the services at the
Maple-Drake JCC will be understand-
ing prayer, themes of the holiday, and
mitzvot, commandments and customs
of Rosh Hashanah.
The services will be led by Rabbi
Alon Tolwin, educational director of
Aish HaTorah. They will begin at 10
a.m. and go until 1:30 p.m. A tradi-
tional kiddush will follow the prayers.
No tickets or fees are necessary to
attend.

Breaks Ground
Congregation Beth Shalom will host an
afternoon of family activities from
noon until 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14,
to break ground for a new educational
center. Festivities will include games,
crafts, moon walk, petting farm, sports,
face painting, clowns, magic, music
and dancing. All activities are free and
open to the entire community.
A barbecued hot dog lunch will be
provided for a nominal charge.
Activities are planned for all ages.
