Apple Picking
The American Jewish Committee
Detroit Chapter will host a family
outing of apple picking, cider and
donuts, 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at
Long's U-Pick Apples in Commerce
Township. Extra apples will be donat-
ed to Forgotten Harvest, a local
hunger organization.

offer its Hebrew reading crash course,
7:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays, at the Sarah
and Ralph Davidson Hadassah House,
5030 Orchard Lake Road in West
Bloomfield. The cost of the program is
$75 which includes materials.

BAHM Hosts
Shabbat Dinner
A "Getting To Know You" Shabbat
dinner will be held 7:15 p.m. Friday,
Sept. 19, at Congregation Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses. Services will
commence at 6:30 p.m.
Dinner is $11 for adults, $7.50 for
teens ages 13-19 and $4 for children
12 and under. Call the synagogue

Adat Shalom
Hosts Scholar
Adat Shalom Synagogue will host Rabbi
Ira Stone, this year's scholar in residence
to the Detroit Jewish community, for
the weekend of Sept. 19-21.
Rabbi Stone's visit will begin with a
luncheon and program for current and
past adult bat mitzvah women and
their families. He will discuss
"Judaism As a Religion For Adults."
The lunch will be from 11:45 a.m. to
1:30 p.m. There is a $12 per person
charge. Reservations are required by
Friday, Sept. 12.
That evening, the scholar will speak
at a young adult Shabbat service, 7:30
p.m. on the subject of "Praying Versus
Believing: The Relationship Between
Act and Thought." The following
morning Rabbi Stone will address the
congregation on "What Does It
Matter What We Believe?" His visit
will end on Sunday morning, when he
will speak to teens and their parents at
a Tallit 'n Tefillin Program sponsored
by the Men's Club and the Youth
Department. His topic will be "What
Do I Believe?" There is no charge.

Shir Tikvah
Fall Classes
Congregation Shir Tikvah will begin
its fall Hebrew classes in mid-
September. Any member and non-
member adults over the age of 18
interested in learning to read and
chant Hebrew prayers and in being
able to understand key phrases during
services are invited to enroll.
There will be four levels of
Hebrew taught from beginners to
advance with advanced students
