"Aging Has Its Benefits—Putting the
Pieces Together: Benefits and Services
for Older Adults," an educational pro-
gram and health and resource fair for
older adults and their families, will
take place 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12,
at the Maple-Drake Jewish
Community Center.
Sponsored by the Commission on
Jewish Eldercare Services (COJES),
the afternoon will include a health
and resource fair from 1-2 p.m. and
3-4 p.m. and a special guest speaker at
2 p.m. During the health fair, there
will be free flu shots, glucose and
blood pressure screenings conducted
by DMC Huron Valley-Sinai
Hospital. (Anyone planning to have a
glucose screening, which will take
place from 1 to 2 p.m., should refrain
from eating for at least two hours
before the test.)
As part of the resource fair, repre-
sentatives from agencies that serve
older adults will be on hand to
describe their programs and services.
At 2 p.m., Joyce Hunt, director of
access and benefits services at the Area
Agency on Aging 1-B, will give an
update on benefits and services avail-
able to older adults. Ms. Hunt con-
ducts educational seminars and train-
ing for older adults, service providers,
financial planners and certified public
accountants throughout southeast
Michigan on Medicare, Medicaid,
Lodge Honors

The Oakland Century Lodge will pre-
sent its 25th annual Spirit of B'nai
B'rith and Scholarship Awards, 8 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 23, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. Manfred Moser will be the
honoree.
Mr. Moser is active in the Oakland
Century Lodge, a member of the Adat
Shalom Men's Club and a member of
the Hebrew Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rabbi Philip Coven will be the
speaker. He is director of the Hillel
group at Michigan State University.
The program will include the
awarding of two $500 scholarships to
Jewish students whose academic and
social achievements indicate future
commitment to the Jewish communi-
ty. A dessert buffet will follow the pro-
gram. There is nominal charge and the
public is invited.
