trained by a situation where the own-
ership of the company wasn't interest-
ed in growing it, and that's why he
[Taubman] sold the company. It is not
a criticism, but he was putting his
_oney into shopping centers and
Sotheby's, and this was not an invest-
nent vehicle for him.
"The people around here were
operating with one hand tied behind
heir back, but they're good people. So
I inherited as an organizational base a
terrific group of people too. Often
when a company gets acquired, the
new owners come in and clean house.

"Some people left because they
chose to leave for one reason or anoth-
