Many Jewish personalities have
found success as game show hosts.
Although most of them had long
careers as comedians, other fields are
represented.
Mike Wallace, before becoming a
hard-nosed newsman seen Sundays on
"60 Minutes," left his mark on a
number of competitive programs:
"The Big Surprise," "Guess Again,"
"I'll Buy That," "There's One in Every
Family," "Who's the Boss?" and
"Majority Rules."

The late cartoonist Al Capp
presided over "What's the Story?" and
"Anyone Can Win."

Matthew Miller and Nick Dubin
know what it means to be a winner.
Miller won $5,000 and gifts in a
1990 round of the "Jeopardy!" college
tournament. Dubin won $5,000 and a
cabinet in a May segment of "The
Price Is Right."
"I'd always been a fan and done
well watching ["Jeopardy"] at home,"
said Miller, an attorney who partici-
pated while attending the U-M.
He had no trouble coming up with
questions for the answers posed by
host Alex Trebek and even knew what
the finalists missed. What posed the
problem was the buzzer.
"As soon as Trebek completes a
question, a guy unfreezes the buzzer,"
Miller explained. 'A contestant ahead
of the buzzer is freezed out for a [very
brief] time."
Miller has no regrets. He used the
money he won to go to Europe and
get a CD player.
"I like the energy and the spontane-
ity of 'The Price Is Right,"' said Nick
Dubin, a sophomore at Oakland
University.
"I went there during a trip to
California, and it all happened so
quickly. I'd been watching since I was
3 years old, and it didn't seem real
when I was actually on the show," he
said.
The money he won is in a savings
account for college, and the cabinet is
in the basement.
