Survivors Group
Elects Weberman

At the recent annual member-
ship meeting of the Shaarit Hap-
laytah, Abraham Weberman
was elected president of the or-
ganization. Mr. Weberman is
one of the early active leaders of
the Shaarit Haplaytah. New of-
ficers and board of trustees were
also elected.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, the
Shaarit Haplaytah will feature
an installation dinner dance at
Congregation Beth Shalom. For
members, the charge is $15 per
person. For non-members, the
charge is $30 per person.

Networking

The Detroit Chapter of the In-
ternational Association of Jew-
ish Lawyers and Jurists will
hold a networking reception,
5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in
the offices of Miller, Canfield,
Paddock and Stone, 150 West
Jefferson, Detroit.

Kol Ami Plans
Holiday Classes

In the 1997-98 season, Temple
Kol Ami will offer a series of
classes to help prepare for the
holidays. Hinneni Moochan, or
Ready...Set...Celebrate, will be-
gin with 10 sessions prior to
Rosh Hashanah. There is no
charge for these classes but pre-
registration, (248) 661-0040, is
preferred.
On Thursday, Sept. 4, at 7
p.m., Natalie M. Conrad, direc-
tor of music, will read 'The Mu-
sic of Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur." At 8 p.m., Rabbi Ernst
Conrad will present Haftorah
and "The Haftarot of Rosh
Hashanah."
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7
p.m., Elissa Berg, director of ed-
ucation, will speak about "How
to Make Rosh Hashanah and
Yom Kippur Happen at Home

- How to Involve the Children -
Customs and Traditions of the
Holiday." At 8 p.m., Rabbi Nor-
man T. Roman will teach "The
Torah Reading of Rosh
Hashanah."
On Thursday, Sept. 11, at 1
p.m., there will be a repeat of
"The Haftarot of Rosh
Hashanah."
On Monday, Sept. 15, from
7:30 - 8:15 p.m., there will be a
demonstration entitled, "How
and Why: A Crown Challah for
Rosh Hashanah." Everyone will
go home with a challah to bake.
From 8:20 - 9:15 p.m., Rabbi Ro-
man will present "The Torah
Readings of Yom Kippur."
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, at
6:45 p.m., Rabbi Conrad will
teach 'The Haftarot of Yom Kip-
pur:,
On Sunday, Sept. 21, at 11
a.m., Rabbi Roman will teach at
Ealy Elementary during the
Sunday School morning. His top-
ic will be "Teshuvah: The Con-
cept of Repentance in Judaism."
On Thursday, Sept. 25, at 1
p.m., Rabbi Conrad will repeat
"The Haftarot of Yom Kippur."

ZOA To Honor
Sheldon Miller

Sheldon L. Miller, attorney and
civic leader, will be the recipient
of the Zionist Organization of
America's Justice Louis D. Bran-
deis award at ZOA's 64th annu-
al Balfour Celebration Concert,
Tuesday, October 28, at the De-
troit Opera House in the Detroit.
He has held top positions with
the Association of Trial Lawyers
of America and the Michigan
Trial Lawyers Association, has
served as adjunct professor at
the University of Detroit School
of Law, was founder of Trial
Lawyers for Public Justice and
a faculty-member of the Na-
tional College of Advocacy.
Miller serves as co-chairman of
the Metro Detroit Attorney Di-
vision of State of Israel Bonds.
