ADULT JEWISH LEARNING
FOR THE DAYS OF AWE

ELUL: A TIME TO PREPARE

To the person who has seem-
ingly lost everything, kindness is
the last thing that would normal-
ly be felt (That is why this is called
mysticism.) Even if it seems ap-
propriate, the right mystical re-
action to pain and loss is kindness!
It creates a sudden and subtle feel-
ing of well-being, and helps you to
gain control. And that is the bless-
ing, and that is the mitzvah, we
are commanded to choose. [1]

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur do not exist in a vacuum.
Ideally, they are the culmination of a period of reflection and
self-evaluation. During the Hebrew month of Elul, the four weeks
preceding Rosh Hashanah, Judaism calls on us to examine
our lives and prepare our hearts for the Days of Awe.

In this spirit comes "ELUL: A TIME TO PREPARE," a pre-High
Holiday adult study series sponsored by Eilu v' Eilu, a joint
Adult Jewish Learning Project whose sponsors are listed below.
We invite you to come and learn, no matter which branch of
Judaism you grew up in or currently identify with (if any),
and no matter what your level of Jewish knowledge may be.
For more information, call Rabbi Michele Faudem at 851-3220.
