DR. SHELDON J. LACH- MAN, 75, of Versailles, Ky., formerly of Ann Arbor, died Aug. 25. Dr. Lachman was a psychologist and full professor at Wayne State University; he was the longest-tenured pro- fessor (1947-1994) of any de- partment. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor's of science, master's of science and Ph.D. He was a sergeant in the Unit- ed States Air Force during World War II, and was sta- tioned in Guam. Dr. Lachman was commissioned by the United States Department of Labor to do a survey of the 1967 race riots, which was published. He also wrote many books, including Foundations of Science, which was pub- lished in eight languages and used in many foreign coun- tries, and Fundamentals of Psychosomatic Pathology. Dr. Lachman had recently com- pleted a history of the Psychol- ogy Department at Wayne State University. Dr. Lachman is survived by his wife, Ann Lachman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Nathan Fink of Bloomfield Hills, Joyce and Dr. Jack Morof. Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
