family dining. It is a seven-day-a-week
operation with daily specials for
lunch and dinner. The neighborhood
atmosphere is condusive to corn-
fortable dining. This combined with
low prices have made Seros a pop-
ular restaurant.

Star Deli, 24555 W. 12 Mile Rd.,
Southfield, 352-7377. It has been
acclaimed as one of America's
finest carry out only delicatessens,
and has the largest carry-out deli
operations in Michigan. However,
you wouldn't know it from the size.
And everything is homemade: cole
slaw, potato salad, chicken salad,
egg salad and so much more. Star
prepares both fat-free and regular
tuna and cuts its lox by hand. It also
cooks its own corned beef and pas-
trami, and the 7-day operation in-
cludes a major specialty—beautiful
tray catering.

rants owned by Tom Lin are promi-
nently noted for their traditional
Chinese style of dining where ex-
pected side dishes are not a la carte,
but presented with the complete meal
that is ordered. This one is no ex-
ception, and has become a favorite
in the northwest area of Metropoli-
tan Detroit. Tom's other good
Szechuan Empire restaurant is on 5
Mile Road and Middlebelt in Livo-
nia.

Owner Joe Vicari's growing dining
empire can consider this East Side
gem as the flagship restaurant. Its
Italian food, coupled with the kitchen
sense of veteran Italian dining chef
Aldo Ottcrviani, range on the superb,
along with pastries homemade on
the premises. A banquet hall next
door seats over 400 and is receiv-
ing bookings because of the am-
biance and a prime factor... food
as is served at Andiamo Italia.

Those who like the real thing will en-
joy Mai Thai with its very spicy or
non-spicy foods concocted for au-
thentic and traditional tastes at lunch
or dinner. It presents a casual at-
mosphere wits seating around 100
and is open seven days a week.

Mideastern and Mediterranean cui-
sine with a homestyle Chaldean fla-
vor is served by the Attisha family.
Also fresh breads cooked in an open
hearth. This is their second location.
The first one is in Oak Park. Saturday
nights feature strolling musicians and
an internation band for dancing to
Russian, Israeli, Yiddish, Arabic and
American music.

The dominant consistency of this high-
ly-acclaimed critic's choice restaurant
is in its menu selection and food
preparation. But it is also proof that
you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Although in existence since 1962,
Stage & Co. also features items it has
never had before, along with home-
made Jewish dishes and dietary re-
stricted delights to satisfy all appetites.

WINDSOR

Specialties with old world authen-
ticity are prepared at this charming
Hungarian restaurant. It is a family
operation serving European, Cana-
dian and American cuisine over 20
years. Gypsy musicians from Hun-
gary stroll and serenade customers
at tables Thursdays through Sundays.
The husband and wife team of Zota
and Sam Popadic serve both lunch-
es and dinners at their seven-day-a-
week operation.

WEST BLOOMFIELD

Big Daddy's Parthenon, 6199
Orchard Lake Road, West Bloom-
field, 737-8600. The flames blaze
constantly at this heavy restaurant fa-
vorite. It is buy every evening, sev-
en days a week, and lunches are
also big. Owners Rick Rogow and
Tommy Peristeris are proud of thier
juicy lambchops, award-winning
Tommy Salad, traditional Greek fa-
vorites, etc. Banquet facilities up to
300 are available in private quar-
ters. Music by Taylor Made is every
Thursday and Friday evening.

Hoa Kow, 4301 Orchard Lake
