Welcome Students

At Wayne State University, Hil-
lel of Metro Detroit will host
open houses for new and re-
turning students 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 2; Monday, Sept.
8; and Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the
HMD lounge, 667 Student Cen-
ter Building. Also, on Tuesday,
Sept. 2, and Monday, Sept. 8,
there will be 111VID information
tables on the first floor of the
student center building.
At Oakland University, the
Jewish Students Organiza-
tion/Hillel will have a welcome
table 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 3, and Wednesday, Sept.
10, in the Oakland Center. At
Oakland Community College
(Orchard Ridge Campus), the
Jewish Students Associa-
tion/Hillel will have a welcome
table 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday,
Sept. 4, and Thursday, Sept. 11,
in J building across from the
bookstore.
At Lawrence Technological
University the Jewish Students

JPM Events
Attract Seniors

Bingo will be played 12:45 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 22, at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Jewish Commu-
nity Center. Refreshments will
be served. There is a charge.
Celebrate the end of summer
at a party sponsored by the
Jerome Glassman family 1 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 28. The Sam
Barnett Orchestra will provide
dance music for this event that
will be followed by refreshments.
This event is free for JCC mem-
bers and friends.
Vivian Stollman, accompa-
nied by Sonny Lipenholtz, leads
the senior choir on Mondays at
12:30 p.m. There is no charge.
Socials are held every
Wednesday at 10 a.m. There is
a charge. Adult art classes are
held every Monday, Wednesday
and Friday from 9 a.m.-noon.
There is a Jewish Community

Center member fee and non-
member fee, which includes art
supplies.

Temple Treasures
Hears Rabbi

Rabbi Amy Brodsky will be the
featured speaker at the next lun-
cheon meeting of the Temple
Treasures noon Wednesday,
Aug. 27, at Temple Israel. Her
topic will be "Tikkun Olam and
the Work of the Ecumenical In-
stitute." Members and guests
are welcome.

Swim Party

Congregation Beth Achim youth
department will start its pro-
gramming year with a family
swim party 5-8 p.m. Sunday,
Aug. 24, at the Maple-Drake
Jewish Community Center.

ketball and volleyball, and en-
joy a pizza dinner.

Panel Discusses
Media Standards

"Journalistic Standards and In-
tegrity in Television News To-
day" will be the topic for the
American Jewish Committee,
Detroit Chapter's fall kick-off
program scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Channel 7
in Southfield.
Experts in the media field will
lead a panel discussion moder-
ated by WXYZ-TV Public Af-
fairs/Editorial Director Chuck
Stokes. This program is open to
the Jewish community for those
interested in the topic and in
learning more about the local ac-
tivities of the American Jewish
Committee.
The evening's chairman, An-
drew S. Doctoroff, will introduce
the panelists and will distribute
information about the AJC.
There is no charge for the
event. Reservations are neces-
sary and seating is limited. For

Publicity Deadlines

The normal deadline for local news
and publicity items is noon Thursday,
eight days prior to issue date. The
deadline for out-of-town obituaries
is 10 a.m. Tuesday, three days prior
to issue date.
All material must be typewritten,
double-spaced, on 8'A x11 paper and
include the name and daytime tele-
phone number of sender.
