Hosts Scholar

Congregation Beth Shalom will
host the Conservative move-
ment's scholar in residence Rab-
bi Ira F. Stone Friday, Aug. 22,
after Kabbalat Shabbat service.
He will speak on "What are all
these Angels doing in my Prayer
Book?" The dinner is by reser-
vations only: $10 for adults and
$5 for children. Baby-sitting is
available upon request. Services
will be at 6 p.m. with dinner fol-
lowing.
Rabbi Stone will speak on Sat-
urday Aug. 23, on "Praying vs.
Believing: The Relationship be-
tween Act and Thought" and at
5 p.m. at Se'udah Sh'lishit on
"The Surprising Theology of the
Amidah." On Sunday morning,
the Men's Club will sponsor a
brunch at 10 a.m. at which Rab-
bi Stone will speak on "Religion
for the 21st Century." There is a
$3 charge.

Bet Chaverim
Plans Social

Congregation Bet Chaverim will
host its second annual back to
school ice cream social Sunday,
Sept. 7, at the synagogue. This
social is a kick-off to the new re-
ligious school year which begins
on Sunday, Sept. 21.
The congregation especially
welcomes non-members to come
to meet members and learn
about the congregation. For in-

The congregation recently
elected the following officers for
the coming year: president —
