Dr. Dennis Papazian, professor of
Soviet history and director of the
Armenian Research Center at the
University of Michigan, Dearborn

Drake. Dr. Papazian's topic will
be "Geopolitics of the Middle East
— Israel, Armenia and their Mus-

Detroit's Jewish community recently donated over $13,000 to help rebuild Focus:
HOPE after the devastation caused by the July storms. The money raised by the
Jewish community will help Focus: HOPE restore its facilities and return to its
work of aiding the community. Jewish Community Council President Howard I.
Wallach presents storm relief funds to Eleanor Josaitis, executive director of
Focus: HOPE.

Honor The Diems

will be the honorees at the
Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan
University's Gala Dinner and
Cabaret to be held 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek.
The Diems are being hon-
ored for their decade of friend-
ship to the university as well
as for their significant in-
volvement in the Jewish and
general communities. Both at
Bar-Ilan and Wayne State
University, the Diems em-
phasis has been on scholar-
ship funding and,
consequently, the Bar-Ilan
event will mark the inaugu-
ration of the Diem Graduate
Scholarship Fund. This fund
will be permanently endowed
and will provide annual mas-
ter's-level scholarship fund-
ing in perpetuity for a
number of Bar-Ilan graduate
students.
