n one more show of the dynamism of
the south Oakland County Jewish com-
munity, Temple Emanu-El is on the
brink of expanding.
On Sunday, temple members got to-
gether for a groundbreaking, and while
they were at it, a party.
Rabbi Joseph Klein, who officially joined
Temple Emanu-El on Aug. 1 as its new se-
nior rabbi, entertained with his banjo and
performed magic tricks. Storytelling, vol-
leyball, singing and dancing rounded out the

The temple, which was built in 1955, will
expand and renovate its sanctuary, social
hall, kitchen, foyer and other areas with the
$1.5 million it has raised since May last year.
