The Greater Detroit Interfaith
Round Table announced a
$72,000 grant from the Skillman
Foundation of Detroit for the ex-
pansion of the successful Anytown
USA program.
Anytown USA, led by Barbara
Gray, a program director for the
Round Table, offers metropolitan
Detroit-area high school young-
sters an opportunity to participate
in diversity awareness and anti-
discrimination programs.
Through the Skillman Foun-
dation Grant, the Anytown con-
cept will be expanded to their
summer camps in cooperation
with United Way Community
Services (UWCS), allowing the di-
versity awareness programs to be
presented before 9,000 area
youngsters this summer.
The one-year grant will support
two formats of diversity aware-
ness training by the Round Table
staff for the United Way-select-
ed camps: on-site training for the
staff of 10 camps; on-site diversi-
ty programs in three to eight of
the 10 camps led by diversity pro-
gram leadership teams.
The Greater Detroit Interfaith
Round Table is a nonprofit hu-
man-relations organization with
a mission to increase tolerance and
understanding among religious,
cultural and racial groups through
advocacy, conflict resolution and
education. The Round Table is a
chapter of the National Confer-
ence, formerly the National Con-
ference of Christians and Jews.
