Sara Netanyahu made headlines
when she fired her kids' nanny
for not being clean enough. The
Israeli papers dubbed it "Nan-
nygate.'
Then, she had to endure
charges in a new book that her
husband was having an affair
with Cabinet Minister Limor Liv-
nat.
Now, the first lady has written
an apology to Israers consul gen-
eral in New York, Colette Avital,
for reportedly implying in an out-
burst during a TV interview that
she was having an affair with for-
mer Prime Minister Shimon
Peres.
A spokeswoman for Avital con-
firmed that the letter was re-
ceived from Sara Netanyahu. She '
said Avital now considered "the
affair closed" and would have
nothing further to say, referring
to Netanyahu's outburst, not the
alleged affair with Peres.
The section of the interview
that contained the outburst was
not broadcast at Sara Ne-
tanyahu's request. In it, she re-
portedly spoke about infidelity
among politicians and said,
"Where do you think Shimon
Peres spends the night when he
is in New York?"
Israeli media interpreted the
remark as an allusion to Avital.
Israel TV quoted Sara Ne-
tanyahu's letter to Avital: "As you
have no doubt heard, I apologized
in the media for any offense
which I may have caused when I
got angry over provocative ques-
tions put to me in the TV studio.
Since your name was brought
into the affair in statements at-
tributed to me, I am making a
special apology to you."
