The Jazz Mandolin F'roject has been called everything from al-
terna-jazz to funky folk: Most of the trio's compositions are writ,
ten by bassist Stacy Starkweather, right. Loyal audiences,
expecting an eccentric performance, are particularly fond of
the segment called The Collage, during which an improvisa-
tion shapes the music, taking on forms of heavy rock, classical
or an Irish jig. Whatever it is, it's worth checking out. 8. p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 3. $7. Magic Bag, 22920 Woodward, Ferndale.
(248) 544-3030.
