orandum in letter form demon-
strating details of compliance with
each of the following require-
ments.
The applicant must be: a Jew-
ish student from the metropoli-
tan Detroit area who is now
attending a college or university
with at least one full year of cred-
its toward a degree (sophomore
or above); who has superior schol-
arship; who demonstrates a need
for such financial assistance; who
shows leadership qualities for the
benefit of the Jewish community;
whose campus activity show es-
tablished roots in metropolitan
Detroit.

Pleads Not Guilty

A former official of Brooklyn's
Bobover Chasidic community,
his aide and two Jewish broth-
ers pleaded not guilty recently to
charges that they were part of
a money-laundering scheme for
Colombian drug traffickers.
A dozen Bobover observers
from Borough Park sat quietly
on the right side of the federal
courtroom in downtown Brook-
lyn as the 11 defendants — Jew-
ish and Colombian men — and
their lawyers stood side by side
before Judge Steven Gold during
a brief arraignment.
Rabbi Bernard Grunfeld, 64,
former president of Bobover's
yeshiva and Congregation Eitz
Chaim, pleaded not guilty to 12
counts of money-laundering and
conspiracy charges. He faces up
to 20 years in federal prison and
$1.5 million in fines if convicted
on all charges.
Also pleading not guilty were
Israel Knobloch, 24, and Bel-
gium-born brothers Mahir and
Abraham Reiss. Seven others,
some of whom are Colombian na-
tionals, also pleaded not guilty.
