She was a founding member of the Temple Emanu-El Sister- hood and was, as president of Temple Emanu-El, the first fe- male president of a congrega- tion in Michigan. She was twice a president of the National Fed- eration of Temple Sisterhoods and a past president of Temple Beth Israel in Longboat Key. She also was a board member of the Union of American He- brew Congregations, serving as a vice president and in other ca- pacities. Within Reform Judaism, Mrs. Maltzer was a chairperson for the commission on aging, had a longterm commitment to UAHC Youth Camping and to the North American Federation of Temple Youth. She acted as a volunteer nurse for MSTY conclaves. In addition, Mrs. Maltzer served on the Council of Presidents, a group from ma- jor Jewish organizations which advised president Carter on matters of concern to American Jews. Mrs. Maltzer is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Joseph H.
