Today is the second anniversary of a terrorist bomb-
ing that took place at the headquarters of the Jewish
community of Argentina, the DAIA.

The Buenos Aires attack cost the lives of 87, injured
200 and destroyed or damaged the property of 900
families. It occurred two years after a bombing at
the Israel Embassy, in which 29 people were killed.

The effect on the Jewish community of Argentina has
been devastating, particularly so because of the
failure of the Argentinian government to bring the
perpetrators to justice.

The Argentinian Jewish community is fright-
ened, and it is alone — except for their ex-
tended family: American Jewry.

Through the JDC — the American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee — which you support
through your gift to Detroit's Allied Jewish Campaign,
you show that the Jews of Argentina are not alone.

JDC, our major overseas Campaign beneficiary,
immediately stepped in to help the community with
emergency victims' assistance and long-term aid to
rebuild and reorganize the entire Jewish communal
structure.

Emergency relief from the JDC continues in the
midst of an economic crisis throughout Argentina
that has taken away the livelihoods of thousands in
the Jewish community and left them so impoverished
they can no longer send their children to Jewish
school, or belong to a synagogue or community
center.

The JDC and American Jewry are their lifeline.

At the same time, we cannot allow terrorism
to thrive. Our Detroit Jewish community calls
upon the government of Argentina to vigor-
ously pursue the investigation of these attacks
upon its Jewish citizens and to swiftly bring
the perpetrators to justice.

We share the pain and anger of our brothers and
sisters in Argentina. With them, we stand in solidar-
ity and love.
