Shawn Locke

spend the 1997/98 academic
year in Israel writing a book
about bringing spirituality into
Jewish schools. Naomi Blumen-
berg, previously director of the
Midrasha Center for Adult Jew-
ish Studies at the AJE, has ac-

cepted the role of interim prin-
cipal to begin implementing the
long-range goals established by
the board.
Over the past 10 years,
Shawn Locke has been respon-
sible for developing community-
wide teacher training programs
in both San Francisco and De-
troit. Naomi Blumenberg has de-
veloped a long-range plan for
community-wide adult Jewish
education, including Judaica
and 12 levels of Hebrew study.
Ms. Blumenberg, also a Hebrew
calligrapher and artist, will work
with teachers to further devel-
op avenues to enable children to
learn through the creative arts.
