counselor Jessica Alter said. "All
the campers are here voluntarily."
The seventh-graders from
Berman packed the meals, while
30 eighth graders distributed.
"It's a good mitzvah to do some-
thing like this," Berman camper
Carly Baigelman said. "It's nice to
help people who need it."
Yad Ezra's President Jeffrey
Appel was pleased about the focus
of this particular project.
"This is great for the kids be-
cause it focuses on community ser-
vice," Appel said. "It was a good fit
between what the campers want-
ed to do, and the work we do. It
makes for a good alliance, and the
kids feel good about doing it."
Ryke's hopes that this service
will be an ongoing relationship
with the camp. "We're trying to
arrange another date and time to
do this for our clients," she said.
Alter was pleased with her
campers' work. "They had re-
sponded great to the idea, and
everything worked out well," she
said. "Hopefully, they'll walk
away with a sense of accom-
plishment." ❑

worked with Yad Ezra to
distribute Shabbat dinners
last Friday in the parking lot at
the Lincoln Shopping Center in
Oak Park.
The recipients of the food are
the more than 1,000 Jewish clients
that use Yad Ezra, the kosher food
bank.
"We went to the camp and
asked if they would be interested
in working with us," said Elaine
Ryke, Yad Ezra's director of hu-
man resources. "[Camp director]
Harvey Finkelberg said they'd be
happy to. They were very gracious
in their assistance."
The 1,200 meals that were dis-
tributed included a cooked chick-
en, challah, knishes, carrot and
celery sticks and a bottle of grape
juice. The camp provided and pre-
pared the meals, and the girls and
their counselors, who were bussed
in from camp, distributed the food.
