Skipper the raccoon, togeth-
er with two little squirrels
named Tag and Winky, lead
children on a month-by-
month adventure that in-
cludes growing plants from
sweet potatoes, making a
puzzle and building a home
for ants.

This is a delightful book of short
stories (each contained to two
pages) about small, but impor-
tant moments in childhood.

In the first story, which is just
as nice as it could be, a little
boy wakes up early and wants
to climb into bed with his par-
ents. They want to sleep, but
finally the father gets up and
goes with his son to the boy's
room. There, they listen as the
birds sing.

Other stories focus on a boy
who forgets to kiss his mother
goodbye, a girl who loves only
purple and eating a ginger-
bread man.

The illustrations are just dar-
ling, as is the running com-
mentary that accompanies
the instructions. "The ants
built tunnels in there!" Tag
says as he and his friends com-
plete their ant home. Winky
adds, "Now we let them go, so
they won't die."

Chances are good you've seen
some of these projects before,
but you may not have gotten
around to doing them. The
book also is that pleasant rarity
that doesn't offer a Christmas
project for the month of De-
cember, or an Easter one for
April.
