Mrs. Solomon calls her photos, hand-colored, black-and-white pictures (usually of children and pets), Art Por- traits. "My creative endeavors travel down many avenues, from the creation of fiber-art wallpieces and soft-sculpture dolls to needlepoint, beading, and the _ designing and making of jewelry," she says. "My interest in photography began when my own children, now 19 and 15, were infants. I always had a cam- era at arms reach. I even carried it in my diaper bag, along with other neces- sities. My son's lives to date are docu- mented and relived in volumes of albums." Mrs. Solomon believes that her work as a special-education teacher, along with raising her own two boys, helped her develop patience and a rap- port with children that makes her pho- tos unique. "I strive to create a relaxed style, to establish a comfort level that makes children look more natural," she says. "I also make it my quest to create pic- tures of children that portray their spirit and wonderful little personalities, ges- tures and expressions. I am frequently rewarded with comments such as, 'Oh yes, that's really him!' or 'You've really captured his look.'" In the past, Mrs. Solomon's photos have been on display at Borders, Barnes & Noble, the Novi Civic Center and Kidsport, among others. Through- out July, you can see her work at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield, or contact her at Picture This, (248) 851-8950. N cr) _0) ig
