o they didn't end up eating outside.
But it was a barbecue, nonetheless. The chicken,
beef kabobs, hotdogs and hamburgers were cooked on
grills outside in an experiment a few weeks ago for
Sperber's North, the kosher caterer for the Jewish
Community Center.
Each Tuesday, Sperber's hosts a kosher dinner in
the cafeteria of the West Bloomfield JCC.
Despite the rain, the barbecue was a "phenome-
e,,,
nal success," said Sperber's owner Alan Linker. He
figures he served 300 meals from 5 to 8 p.m.
Sperber's is planning another barbecue at the Cen-
ter on Aug. 19. If the weather cooperates, tables will
be set up outside, near the playground. ❑
