HISTORY OF THE FRESH AIR SOCIETY
1950: ORTONVILLE IS PURCHASED
In 1950, to meet the increased number of children who
needed to be served, a second campsite was purchased in
Ortonville, Michigan. It was to be called Camp Tamarack
after Tamarack Hills Farms, which occupied part of the site.
With further purchases of land, this campsite soon occupied
1,250 acres. One architect who submitted drawings for the
new site was the famous Frank Lloyd Wright. His designs,
however, were rejected.
