sunset, like a final farewell, signals a change in
our lives. Inevitably, however, night gives way to
day and we must accept this change. For over 50
years, THE IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL has served the
Detroit Jewish Community with dedication.
Yad Ezra, Michigan's only kosher food pantry, opened its doors
in 1990 to provide supplemental kosher food packages to needy
families in the Jewish community.
Funded almost exclusively by private contributors, Yad Ezra
services over 1,000 families every month and relies on more than
200 volunteers to distribute 500,000 pounds of food annually.
The Jewish community has always been very generous in its
support of Yad Ezra. With the welfare reform legislation impacting
the lives of many of its clients, Yad Ezra will need to provide
additional help for those who will no longer have a "safety net."
The Jewish community must work together to ensure that no
one suffers from hunger.
