S.ati at, Get! (810) 855 - 6490 L y husband Joel often thinks that what I do is easy, that all we do all day at The Jewish News is eat and talk. Arriving home after a long day of banging out stories, I will be asked in a tone somewhat pa- tronizing, "Have a rough day, honey? Was the food you tasted bad or something?" Little does he realize just how difficult this job is. Not only do I have to go sometimes to five dif- ferent stores looking for items to eat, but I actually have to open the packages and taste them. If that wasn't enough, I have to record opinions and translate the information into a story. This week's taste test was more difficult than others. Ice cream is a hard subject to weigh. First there is the color, then the bouquet, next is the creaminess factor and finally, flavor. Add to the experience the danger of brain freeze and you have a test even the greatest of humans would not attempt on their own. In fact, so much brain freeze goes on in an ice cream taste test that workman's comp may well be applicable in this case. And that doesn't even delve into the stomachache that follows from taste testing so many different varieties. But, dear readers, never fear. I have ignored my husband and the dangers to my health to bring to you Tofutti's latest creation, just in time for National Ice Cream Month. OK, so Tofutti isn't really ice cream; it is actually soy beans made to taste like premium ice cream. But, unlike ice cream, it fits in after a meat-fest, kosher barbecue because it is pareve. For this taste test, we tried the new Tofutti Too-Too's, frozen dessert cookie sandwiches. In the vanilla chocolate chip, vanilla and vanilla chocolate swirl, these amazingly dairy-free sandwich- es carry about 230 calories, 1 gram of fat, no cholesterol, , 155 -/ _\ milligrams of sodium, three grams of protein and 30 grams of carbohydrates. Although they are not currently in the Detroit area, these new treats are expected to land in the grocer's freezer in the coming weeks. The Rating: Tofutti Dairy Free Too-Too's Vanilla Chocolate Swirl "It's fine. Nothing special." — Lynne Cohn "Chocolate is a little weak but this is the creamiest, most deli- cious ice cream sandwich I have eaten, next to Haagen-Dazs." — Jill Davidson Sklar Tofutti Dairy Free Too-Too's Vanilla "Dairy free! I cannot believe it! It is so good." — Brigette Thompson, "Good for those who can't toler- ate dairy products but not as good as the real thing." — Gail Zimmerman Tofutti Dairy Free Too-Too's Vanilla Chocolate Chip "Oh, yes! Delicious! Who cares about the 11 grams of fat with this taste!" — Elizabeth Applebaum "Yum, yum, yum. These are the best creations ever." — Lynne Konstantin El FOR LIKE-NEW WOMEN'S & CHILDREN'S DESIGNER fashions & accessories ?\.
