ing that someday he would be
the owner of a restaurant down-
stairs.
But if he had, chances are that
young Bart would have said,
"Grandpa, I love Detroit so
much. I hope when I grow up I
can be a part of it."
This he has achieved.
20TH ANNIVERSARY of
Rhinoceros on Riopelle will be
celebrated on that day, Sunday,
July 20, with local personalities
coming to serve as bartenders.
Rhinoceros owner Norman
Schwartz is having it as a fund-
raiser for the Child Protective
Services Agency that benefits
abused children.
NOW COMES a Big Kosher
Bar-B-Q Bash ... On July 1, it
will take the place of Sperber's
Kosher Catering's regular Tues-
day evening dinner, 5 p.m. to 8
p.m. at the Jewish Community
Center on Maple and Drake.
It will be held outside next to
the JCC's new playground.
Sperber's will have hamburg-
ers, hot dogs, chicken, bar-b-q
beef, corn-on-the-cob, grilled veg-
etables, baked potatoes, etc.

Woodward
restaurant.
Kids special prices and adult
dinner special charges will still
be in effect.
Another outdoor bash by Sper-
ber's is slated for Tuesday, Aug.
19.
Both dates are weather per-
mitting ... Otherwise they will be
back indoors at the JCC cafete-
ria.

THIRD RESTAURANT
opening by Chuck "Rocky" Rach-
witz will be in partnership with
Steve Allen, who leaves as exec-
utive chef at Golden Mushroom.
It will be called Steve &
Rocky's Place, an upscale seafood
restaurant with a lot of hanging-
wire fish sculptures and raw bar.
Site is the Fuddrucker's in
Northville that will close the end
of this month and two weeks lat-
er be remodeled for a hopeful
September opening of Steve &
Rocky's Place.
No resemblance whaIsoever
to the Rocky's of Brighton or
Rocky's of Northville ... and it
will be located about seven miles
away from the latter.
FROM THE LATEST
newsletter put out by Unique
Restaurant Corporation:
"All of us at the URC are
pleased with recent notification
from the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis that we have been ap-
proved for supervision for a
kosher venue.
"Matt Prentice has com-
menced a search for our kosher
venue which he would like to lo-
cate in West Bloomfield or Farm-
ington Hills.
"This kosher restaurant, yet
unnamed, will comply with
kashrut, the rules and laws reg-
ulating the preparation of kosher
food. The restaurant will be
milchig. In other words, it will
serve dairy products, fish and
vegetarian items. No meat will
ever be served. While the restau-
rant will be kosher, it will be
marketed as a 'great place to eat
that just happens to be kosher.'
. "While it is impossible to guess
when we'll be opening this venue
as a location has yet to be found,
we hope to bring it to you in ear-
ly 1998.
"Please be aware that while
we have been approved for su-
pervision, all current Matt Pren-
tice restaurants are treife'
(nonkosher) and are not accept-
able to those who observe the di-
etary laws."
