Courtship And Contract
Planning a visit to New York City? If you're
there by Labor Day, you'll have the opportu-
nity to witness a riveting exhibition of 240 dec-
orated ketubbot (Jewish marital contracts) from
the 17th to 20th centuries. "Courtship andton-
tract: Decorated Ketubbot from Europe and the
Orient" is an assemblage of some the world's
most glorious contracts from Persia, like the
1877 one pictured, to Bombay and Calcutta to
Rome — culled from the Zucker Family Col-
lection of Oriental and European ketubbot. At
the Jewish Theological Seminary, Broadway
and 122nd Street, Manhattan. (212) 678-8975.
The band that took the
guitar out of rock does ac-
tually utilize other in-
struments instead: Billy
Conway, drums; Dana
Colley, baritone sax; and
Mark Sandman, two-
string slide bass and vo-
cals, make up Morphine,
which will be heading up
93,9 The River's second
annual Riverfest. Also
featuring the Why Store,
Patty Griffin, Thornetta
David, William Topley,
the Odds, Stewart
Francke, Whiskeytown
and more. Doors open
noon Sunday, June 29,
rain or shine. $11.93; children 10 and under free.
The Phoenix Plaza Amphitheatre, at Saginaw
and Water streets, Pontiac. (248) 335-4850.
