Mies IRA KAUFMAN (1896-1986) Ira Kaufman established a legacy of service, compassion and trust with the Detroit Jewish community which remains unsurpassed. James Main, Accountant James J. ("Jack") Klain, 74, of Bloomfield Hills, died June 24. Raised in Detroit, he grad- uated from Northern High School in June 1940 as a class president and valedictorian. A grad- uate of Walsh Institute of Accountancy, he was a founding partner in the accounting firm of Linden, Klain, Israel and Ross, beginning in 1942 and continuing through a 1988 merger with BDO Sei- dman, from which he retired as a partner in 1990. Mr. Klain was a past chair- man and board member emer- itus of the Epilepsy Center of Michigan, a life member of Walsh College Alumni Associ- ation, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan Association of Certi- fied Public Accountants, mem- ber of Congregation Beth Achim, B'nai B'rith and Mezer- James J. Klein itcher Social Club. Mr. Klain was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing courses in Michigan and in California, where he and his wife spent the winters. She earned her math degree from Michigan State and was an alumna of AE Phi. Mrs. Cuttner was a past regional fi- nancial secretary for ORT, past officer of Michigan ORT- Oakland Hills, member of B'nai B'rith and Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Mrs. Cuttner also was a member of the Golden Circle of ORT, a life- time member of Hadassah, an avid bridge and mahjongg player.
